| This is my last official day of holiday break. I should start a weekly countdown to summer. Not that I don't love my students, but being off has been unbelievably nice. We made significant progress on our house. I painted an enclave in the guest bedroom (jet black) and we painted our office (what we like to call "lab white" because it's so white it's sterile) which took an unbearable four days. Not four days of painting for an hour or two and then relaxing. Eleven + hour days painting this stupid room. Thank goodness it looks good. I will never paint a twelve-frame window EVER again. We have four in this room each with about four coats of paint. You do the math. I bought an ikea recliner, painted it, will attempt to assemble it once the final clearcoat dries. We also put new window blinds in the office. They are much better than the dingy (sp?) old ones we had in here. Altogether, a pretty successful two weeks!
So far, I haven't kept either of my resolutions... is it too late to start over? :)

Christmas break so far has been nice. I frantically prepared for Christmas two days before (worst shopping lines ever) and then celebrated for three days straight. Now I'm home and enjoying the new casa. I had grand plans of painting at least two rooms over break. Now I think I'll be lucky to tape and prime just one. Maybe I'll still get a head start on painting the living room. Who knows?
I also had grand plans of getting my grades done the week before Christmas. HA! I haven't cracked the ol' gradebook yet. I will consider entering them the day before they're due. What happened to planning Lindsay? She's gone. I miss the lists, checking stuff off when I finished it, knowing what on earth was going on, not missing deadlines, making it on time to various mindless trainings. Now I'm the frantic shopper two days before, looking at the remaining Christmas inventory and thinking "does anyone need a bundt pan? They're on sale... Surely I know someone who could use a bundt pan..." and then leaving the bundt aisle for discount ornaments (they make great stocking stuffers, by the way).
I also realized (on the drive to the in-laws') that I probably should bring some food. So, after dropping Dustin off, I went to CVS at 9:45 p.m. on Christmas Eve to scrounge together some stuff for a holiday snack mix. It was an experience. I also bummed some apples (sliced and mixed with cinnamon and nutmeg, they're not bad) off my mom and a molded two-layer jell-o thing she had made extras of. These were the offerings I had for my in-laws. No wonder they hate me. They're gourmets. Seriously. My mother-in-law made what she called a "jim-bob" Christmas dinner, because it was supposedly thrown together and ghetto. We had stuffing, gravy, mashed potatoes, a turkey, deviled eggs, pumpkin pie, apple cake, salad, dinner rolls, a fancy pants jell-o mold, homemade whipped cream and vegetable soup. It was not even close to ghetto. This is what I'm up against...
I won't let frantic Christmas happen to me again. I have already purchased Christmas wrapping supplies for next year (on sale at Target) and a gift or two. Good-bye frantic Christmas next year. I have been volunteered to make Christmas dinner next year. So, that'll be interesting, but I've got enough chargers and table linens to set out for the U.S. Army next year, so if it doesn't taste good, maybe it will look good.
In other non-Christmas news, my principal has asked me to be the head coach for women's cross country. So, I will get to run those little girls to death in next year's hottest summer ever. I guess I'd better stock up on Gatorade.
From me to you, have a great new year! Make a resolution or two. :)

| What a ridiculous week! I had some serious head trauma this morning when an overhead projector screen fell from the ceiling and crashed into my head. They sent an ambulance out and everything. So, a first for me... ride in the ambulance. I'm OK and ready to watch our cross country boys TAKE regionals tomorrow!

| So, the "I'm a bad teacher" feeling is starting to take over. I think I'm ready to move into my new house. It's going to be completely insane; bring it on! We should just have a baby and maybe my fantastic husband could lose his job just to add a little more stress to the mix. I'm looking forward to Thanksgiving break!
In other news, someone broke into my classroom over the weekend and stole my Title I--funded PowerPoint projector. That was a disappointing way to begin my Monday...
By the way: this is my new favorite song. I cannot get enough.

| So, I had a sub today so I could go watch our STATE CHAMPION cross country team run their district meet. They kicked serious butt, and came in first place as a team. We were 1st, 2nd, 4th, and 7th place, plus some other very close places individually. AMAZING.
In my absence, one of my students gave the sub a hard time and pretended that she couldn't speak English. The sub told her that if she couldn't speak English, then maybe she should just go back to Mexico. My jaw dropped when my sub told me that. Since when is it OK to talk to people like that?! I would NEVER say that to someone. I mean, I know it was a little immature of my student to pretend like she couldn't speak English, but that's not an appropriate adult response.
Where on earth do they grow these substitutes? I haven't had a good one yet!
